(fkom our own correspondent.). Marton, April 19. F. P. Phillips, late schoolmaster at South Makirikiri, was charged to-day with bigamy. He had seduced one of his pupils, a girl of 15, and then married her, his first wife being still alive at Auckland. Prisoner was remanded for a week. Wellington, April 19. Mr Amelius Smith, late private secretary t< the Premier, has been appointed Chief Clerk in the Wellington Crown Lands Office, which vacancy was created by the death of Mr Holmes. The poll in the Karoia Licensing District, resulted in favor of the increase of licenses of all descriptions. Hokitika, April 19. The Rev, W. E. G-illtnan, late of Christchurch, has resigned the Wesleyan Ministry and joined the Church or England. The Woodstock rush is extending, and the population is increasing gradually. Several new claims have been bottomed with fair prospects, and there is every probability of a considerable field being opened.
