Fire Brigade Practice.
The! Fire Brigade mustered at the Shed lastevening for practice, and took the Engine up to Messrs. Large and Townley’s premises, in the Gladstone Road. Mr Townley having kindly placed his well at their disposal; With three lengths of hose, however, they were unable to draw the water. They worked at it for about half an hour, and then made tracks for their old ground at Mr S. Stevenson’s stables. They have only four lengths of hose available, and those are unfitted for an engine of this description. The Brigade think, that with a smaller and more efficient hose, they could send the water over any building in the Bay. With regard to the internal working of the Brigade very little hod to be done* One new member was elected, and one member was struck off the roll for non-attendance. It was resolved that the Borough Council should be waited upon with a view to the supply of a new hose. The Sub-Superintendent of the Napier Fire Brigade was present, and expressed his apinion that although the men worked well, only needing practice, they were practically useltss without new and better hose. Mr S. Stevenson presented the Brigade with a hand-lamp, and Mr George Humphries followed suit with a carriage lamp and bracket to fit on the engine. The Brigade dismissed at about a quarter to nine.
