Poverty Bay Standard. Thursday, April 13, 1882.
For want of of space we refrain from entering at lengtli into the topic of the day, the resignation of the Hall Ministry. We have the less hesitation in this as all we could say would be merely conjecture. Beyond what is stated in our telegrams—that the Ministry have resigned, and that His Excellency the Governor has sent for Sir George Grey—we know absolutely nothing. The cause of the rupture we know nothing of beyond what conjecture, founded on the old principle of putting two and two together, leads us to suppose probable. We can not expect to know much more for certain until the interview between His Excellency and the leader of the Opposition has taken place, when doubtless much will be divulged to the public that now lies buried in Ministerial breasts. Until then we must perforce leave our readers to the solution of the problem of what is to be aided only by their knowledge of the past and their powers of observation. We shall keep the matter prominently before them and spare no effort to supply them with information on such an all important subject.
