(FBOM OUB OWN CORRESPONDENTS). Auckland, March 8. The result of the Rotorua land sale was a follows : —Town sections, upset price, £1,341; annual rental realised, £1950 10s. Suburban, upset price, £144; realised, £3Ol. Rural, upset price, £ll6 ; realised, £3OB. A deputation waited yesterday on the Attorney-General and Sir G. M. O’Rorke in reference to the establishment of an University College in Auckland. Mr Whitaker said he was not favorably impressed with the project, but would consider the matter fully. Hokitika, March 8. Gold was struck yesterday by Heron and party on the flat above Woodstock, on the south side of Hokitika River. The sinking was fifty feet, and the depth of wash three or four feet, which is estimated to yield five pennyweights to the load. Several shafts are going down, snd a good many claims had been pegged out. The flat, though immediately in the vicinity of the Terrace workings, close to the river, has been untried, and is of considerable extent. It is believed that new lead has been found. There was some excitement in town to-day on the news being received. Balclvtiia, Maech 8 Wm. Whylock, blacksmith, of Puerna. committed suicide by hanging himself early this morning, he was discovered at 7 o’clock hanging from a beam in his smithy, he was quite dead. Wellington, March 1. The Government have received advice that the Cable steamer Agnes is at Port Darwin, and will leave for here at the end of the week. She is expected here in about three weeks. Chbistchurch, March 8. The Open Courts of the Exhibition will be lighted with Edison’s light. Ellen Fuller, suspected of having set fire to her Milliners shop, in Wellington, was arrested here yesterday and remanded to Wellington.
