In both Houses of Parliament this evening addresses to the Queen were passed expressing gratification at Her Majesty’s escape from the recent attempt on her life. Information has been received from Brussels to the effect that the police have arrested a party of men in that city, who are charged with being concerned in the robbery of diamonds and other valuables from the Hatton Garden Post Office, London, in November last. March 7. In the House of Commons last night the question of Mr Bradlaugh’s admission again came up for consideration in view of that gentleman’s reelection for Northampton. Sir Stafford Northcote renewed his opposition to the admission of Mr Bradlaugh, and an amendment to the motion before the House was then introduced by a Liberal member to provide for a modification of the existing statute, so as to make it optional on the part of newly-elected members to swear the oath or make affirmation. The debate continues. Melbourne, March 7. The following is the latest betting on the Australian Cup Sweet William 5 to 2, Suwarrow 7 to 1 on (?) For the Newmarket Handicap Larpent was 10 to 1. March 8. Earl Kimberley, Secretary of State for the Colonies, telegraphed to the Governors of Victoria and South Australia expressing the Queen’s cordial appreciation of the telegrams recently forwarded containing congratulations upon Her Majesty’s escape. Sydney, March 7. A boat capsized in the Harbor today, and two Italians who were in it were drowned. The cricket match between English and Australian Elevens resulted in the victory for the latter by 6 wickets. Adelaide, March 8. It is announced that Mr Locke of the Christchurch Museum has been appointed Curator of the Adelaide Museum vice Mr Waterhouse resigned. Brisbane, March 8. The racing stud of the late Sir Joshua Bell has been sold for £lO,OOO.
