(ekom our own correspondents). Governor leaves for Fiji. Wellington, Sept 8. The Governor leaves to-night in Hinemoa for Auckland, where the Man of war Emerald, awaits to convey him to Fiji. The Post tonight has a strong article condemning the Governor’s departure when the House is sitting. Chief Justice Prendergast is expected from the South on Sunday ; he will be sworn in as acting Governor, as soon as the Emerald leaves Auckland. CAPTAIN EVANS DROWNED Nelson, Sept. 9t. Captain Evans of the steamer Wakatu, which arrived fiom Wanganui this morning, is missing ; he was last seen about 5 a.m., when between Stephen’s and Dunville’s Island He left a letter in his hat, which was found hanging aft; the contents of the letter have not yet been made public. Mr. Backstrom, chief officer, brought the steamer into port. Tauranga, Sept. 9. A meeting of electors, convened by Capt. Morris, was held last night, when that gentleman announced his intention not to stand for the district. A resolution was passed by a large majority to send a requisition to the Hon. John Hall, the Premier, asking him to allow himself to be nominated for the representation of the East Coast in Parliament. The second reading of the Representation Bill passed the Legislative Council yesterday by 14 to 8. Whitaker made a long speech in favor of the measure. It is expected to pass the Upper House without amendments.
