Parliamentary.
— [from our own correspondent]. Wellington, Sept. 8. Parliamentary business yesterday was uninteresting, so far as the East Coast is concerned. The New Plymouth Harbor Bill, second reading, occupied up to midnight, when it was carried without division ; Captain Russell and Mr. Stevens are named as Commissioners. GISBORNE HARBOUR BOARD BILL PASSED. Sept. 9th. The Gisborne Harbor Board Bill was conaidtfredL in Committee. Mr. Rplleston said the GevaHKnent had opposed the Timaru 'Rill, throughout, and felt it its
duty to oppose this bill a'so. The Bill had not been carefully considered by the House, and few members were aware of its importance. It was argued, amongst other things, that the Natives would give an endowment of 20,000 acres of land as a subsidy towards constructing the harbor. Mr. Rolleston moved at omission in clause but his proposal was lost by 23 to 12. The Bill was reported to the House as amended.
