[From our own Correspondent]. Wool Sales. General Carr Safe. President Garfield. Great Fire in Paris. London, Sept. 6. Consols haw. advanced to 99|., New Zealand aeourities 6 per cent., 10.40, loan, 101$ ex div, 6 per cent., 1889, loan, 1024; 4| per cent., 1879, 1904, loan, 89f. At the Wool sales to-day, 11,800 bales were catalogued ; tbe tone of the market showed that prices have a hardening tendency. The carcases of beef brought per steamship Protog, were found in good condition, but it is not yet sold. The Orient steamship Cuzco, has arrived at Plymouth, the cargo of frozen meat consisting of 5,000 sheep, was pronounced to be in excellent order. Numerous collisions have occurred at several places in Ireland, during the past few days between the police and the people, and much disorder still prevails in many parts of the country. It is announced that Mr. J. W. Chitty, Q.C. has been appointed Judge of the High Court of Justice of England. London, Sept 7.
Information has been received from Dublin reporting that an attempt was made to-day to blow up the powder magazine at the Police Barracks ,»t Castlebar, County Mayo, but proved unsuccessful. Ottawa, Sept. 7. It is rumoured that Hanlon has withdrawn from the sculling match with Roas, which was arranged to take place at Toronto, in October next. His reasons for breaking off the match have not transpired. New Yobk, Sept. 6. Further intelligence from New Mexico, shows that General Carr, and his detachment of American troops were not, as previously stated, massacred by the Indians, but were made prisoners and confined in fort, from which the General and the bulk of his officers and men, subsequently effected escape, but in their flight eleven of the party were killed by Indians. Paris, Sept. 6. Mr. Gambetta, President of the Chamber of Deputies, made a speech to-day, in the course of which he strongly advocated the adoption of the policy of free trade in France. A great fire occurred at the docks at Paris, and wine and sugar to the value of £24,000 was destroyed. - Washington, Sept 6. Telegrams received to-day from Long Branch report, that, since his arrival President Garfield has shown symptoms of fever, with pulse exceedingly high.
