RESIDENT MAGISTRATE’S

COURT, GISBORNE. ♦—— Thursday, April Bth, 1881. [Before M. Price, Esq., R.M.j Thomas Floyd was cited to answer a charge of failing to contribute towards the support of his son Emannel, at present in the Burnham Industrial School. According to the evidence it appears that defendant has five children saddled on the Colony. Floyd admitted the charge, but said he had not constant employment. Friday April Bth. A Native named Matihana was fined 20s and costs, for committing a disturbance in the Argyll Hotel. FLETCHER V. REEVES. Claim £6 16s, alleged to be due for wages. Plaintiff said he was engaged by Mr Walker, managing for defendant, to make hay at Patutahi. His employment was altered to cooking for the men, on the understanding with Mr Walker that the pay would be the same. Defendant disapproved of the arrangement, and offered plaintiff 20s a week, which he refused, and left off work. Andrew Reeves sworn deposed that Walker was not managing for him. He was merely engaged in cutting thistles, and doing ordinary work. Defendant told Walker he did not want Fletcher there, and subsequently refused to pay him the wages he demanded. Walker was finding jjhis own provisions, and told defendant he had only asked him to stay a few days with him, until he could find employment. Adjourned to this morning at 10 o'clock. A. STEVENS V. T. ADAMS. Claim £2 7s 6d for grazing 2 horses in the paddocks of the plaintiff. It appeared that the claim was a matter between the parties as landlord and tenant, the terms of occupation being disputed. It was, however, made plain to the Court that the plaintiff could not recover, and judgment was given for the defendant with costs. H. FISHER V. ALLANACH. Claim £4, for wages. Judgment for plaintiff with costs.
