The Confederate Diorama.

This popular exhibition arrived yesterday afternoon and will appear this evening in McFarlane’s Hall. The Thames Stcjr of March 24th says:— “ Notwithstanding the counter attractions, the initial representation of the Confederate Diorama at the Theatre Royal last evening attracted a large attendance. The views were good, and the mechanical effects exceedingly realistic, while the descriptive lecture, by Lieut. Herman, is both instructive and amusing. The same gentleman presents one of the most unique and laughable ventriloquial entertainments ever seen. With his half dozen comical lay figures he carries on a conversation, interspersed with songs, ect., for about half an hour. At the conclusion there was a grand distribution of gifts, Mr. P. Hennessy being the lucky winner of the drawing room suite of furniture, and Mr. Fisher taking the electroplated tea and coffee service. The prizes given away were of a most superior class, and gave the greatest satisfaction.” Throughout New Zealand Mr. Thompson’s panoramic treat has been received with immense success and the magnificent gifts he disposes of each evening are highly appreciated.
