Waiapu Races.

(From a Correspondent). We have had a very good race meeting here; everything went off quiet and orderly. There were about 800 Natives and Europeans on the course. The Sergeant in charge of the district rather surprised a “ noted character,” who has had the habit of what he calls “ plugging ” people for the last ten years on the Coast with impunity. He was about starting to “ plug ” when the worthy Sergeant “ downed ” him, and had the handcuffs on him in no time, and quickly marched him off to the lock-up. The following are the events : — MAIDEN PLATE. Mr. Brassey’s br m Alicia 1 Mr. Peri’s b g Gisborne 2 Won by a length. pony race.. Mr. Trimmer’s b g Tommy Dod ... 1 Mr. Walker’s b g Rukapo 2 Six started for this event. Mr. Hales’ b g Giant had a bad start, and therefore, was out of the race. WAIAPU STAKES.
