CORRESPONDENCE.
(JFe do not hold ourselves responsible for opinions expressed by our correspondents].' ■ COUNTY ROADS. TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —As the road from Makaraka to Waerenga-adiika -is now. pitched, I would respectfully suggest that the Councillors get the approaches from the principal bye-roads to the County road pitched and gravelled.; because when the ground gets soft it will be impossible for teams to pull into the solid portion of the County road, as the solid road is so very narrow and dray wheels cut from twelve to eighteen inches into the soft earth, and coming against the curbstones of the solid road, standing another twelve inches high, will be certain to get stuck ; and to draw on to that County pitch, in a diagonal direction, will be sure to cause a capsize. It is a pity that Councillors did not allow the foundation of our understandings to rest upon a little broader basis. It would be interesting to know how much more it would cost to pitch the County road four feet wider, when all things are in working order. If a stranger were to allight from a baloon upon that County pitch, he would have no difficulty in concluding that he had landed in a place called Poverty Bay.—Yours, &c., Drayman.
