Building Society.—A meeting of those interested in the formation of a Land and Building Society is advertized to take place at the Albion Hotel on the 12th May. Late Telegrams. — Space is gradually being annihilated. European telegrams are published this morning which reached Poverty Bay per Rangatira on the morning of the 10th day from London. Financial. —t A recent Hawke’s Bay Government Gazette publishes an abstract of Receipts and Expenditure for the March quarter last, showing a balance to credit at the Union Bank of Australia of £57,578 2s lOd. The Land Sales for the month of March amounted to £7,293 7s Bd. Dramatic. —We do not for a moment suppose that any one would wish to forget the entertainment that is to take place to-night at the Music Hall. The programme is pleasingly varied and attractive, some first rate talent being secured to render the performance as successful as possible. Captain Lloyd.—We are glad to hear of the recovery of this Officer from the effects of his recent severe accident. Captain Lloyd has so far improved as to be able to take a trip to Auckland, and will shortly again take command of his old ship the Rangatira, at which post we shall be glad to welcome him. New Business. —Mr. Oscar Beyer is about to commence a very useful branch of industry in Gisborne, namely, that of Lock and Gunsmith. We wish him every success, and feel sure that his knowledge of the business will ensure him an universal support. Building Accommodation. —We understand that Mr. Hall, the Saddler, is about to utilize the valuable frontage adjoining his present shop, presently occupied as a private residence. Two shops are to be erected, with public offices up stairs, and a private dwelling in the rear. This is a want much felt, and will be a welcome addition to the house and office accommodation of the township. Postal. —Mr. Grubb, the Chief Postmaster of Hawke’s Bay, left on Tuesday last in the Rangatira from an official visit to this district. We understand that Mr. Grubb will recommend some few alterations in the Postal Department, which cannot but be to the public advantage. We should recommend the immediate sale of the present unsightly and incommodious building, the erection of a more suitable one, and the appointment of an official to take charge of it at once.
