EGMONT RACING CLUB.

The annual meeting of the Egmont Racing Club was held at. Messrs Nolan, Tonks, and Go’s offices, Hawera, on Friday. The report and balance-sheet were read and adopted. The latter showed that the receipts from privileges, &c., were £357 6s, the totalisator having yielded £95; subscriptions, £164; entries, &c., £287. The total receipts were £Bll. The balance to profit and loss after paying winners-and all charges was £322. There was now a debt of £307 due to the bank. On the motion of Mr Adamson all the late officers and stewards were re-elected.

A general opinion was expressed that Mr Nolands services should be recognised by the club, and Mr Partridge moved that a donation of £lO be made to the hon. sec. in recognition of his services. The mover thought the time and trouble given by Mr Nolan were worth far more than the sum named by him.—Mr F. M. Baird seconded.—Mr Nolan objected to any payment for services gratuitously rendered by him. Much of thS work had been done by Mr Hutchison —certainly all the book-keeping-*—who was better entitled to a sum of money than the speaker.—lt was resolved that a sum of ten guineas be offered to Mr Hutchison for the office work done by him, as a slight remuneration for extra office work undertaken by him on behalf of the club. Mr Nolan talked of resigning his secretaryship, but the proposal was scouted by all present. Mr J. Burke wrote resigning his position of starter. Messrs Jackson and J. Scott were appointed auditors. On the motion of Mr Jackson, it was resolved that the next race meeting shall bo held on Easter Monday, subject, however, to the discretion of the committee, who would have power to amend the date if necessarv.

In the course of the discussion on this matter, it was agreed that unless the proposed date seriously clashed with the Wanganui and Taranaki meetings, it should be a'dhered to.. It afforded a convenient holiday, and the sooner it was recognised as the Egmont race day the better, as then there would be less of any other locql sports being fixed for that holiday. Butdf the meeting were likely to suffer seriously by reason of the date not suiting the Wanganui and Taranaki races, then it would have to be altered. It was hoped that Wavcrley or Taranaki might agree to work with the, Egmont club, so as to avoid any collision of interests. Abridged from Star,
