MANUTAHI.
[From our own Correspondent.] The railway works between Manutahi and the Manawapou are being busily pushed ahead, but it will be some considerable time, before trucks will be able to run through as far as the river. The country over whicbtbe line J passes is extremely broken and billy; large cuttings and extensive fillings occupy almost the whole distance, which is nearly 2 miles. (Several slips along the route, caused by numberless springs of water percolating through the aides of the .hills, and loosening the layers of papa rock, have taken place. Probably more will happen, as the sides' of the hills are very steep. Only in one place is sand met with, the remainder of the distance being papa rock. The large concrete culvert at the river is now completed. The bridge itself has not 3 T et been commenced. Tbe numerous tents and -houses near the site of the bridge give the place a civilized appearance. There is’also at the same place a new bakery, built to the order of Mr R. Whit-' tem, and residents of Manutahi can obtain, daily, fresh baked bread of superior quality. , .
