UNDER CONSIDERATION.
The, question of compensation for land taken from the Harbour Board tor Railway purposes is not yet settled. It has been “ under consideration ” more or less—principally less—for the last twelve months and no decision arrived at, The|commit(e3 to whom the matter was referred reported favourably, and the expectant Board hoped to receive a cheque for a good round sum as the result of the report. But the windfall did’nt come, and a gentle reminder elicited no reply. Another try was made, and this time came the answer that the matter would receive 11 early ” consideration.. We take this to mean that some time next year the Government will discover that they havn’t got any spare cash, or that the Board has no claim or something of that sort, and thus the affair will be settled, that is if they are left alone. But the Board will, we suppose, not do this. During the session it would perhaps be unwise to harrass the Government, but when Parliament rises another dig in the ribs won’t do any harm. Provided always that the matter is still “ under consideration.”
