THE FIRE AT KAKARAMEA.

Fui’ther Particulars, The storeroom, shop, stables and buggy shed, attached to the Kakaramea Hotel, and owned by Mr J. O’Sullivan,- were burned to the ground on Friday morning, about five o’clock. When first seen, the fire had almost completely destroyed the shop then occupied by Mr J. McLarin, bootmaker. The shop being attached to the storeroom, where the ■wines,; spirits,, and groceries" are kept, the fire spread with great rapidity, catching the hay in the loft above. As it was found impossible to enter the storeroom, two drays loaded with merchandise being close to the building were first removed, the owners being absent. Although great exertions were made by those present to save the harness, oats, wheat and potatoes out of the feed room in the opposite end of the building, the rapid spread of the fire in the loft soon made the workers desist, their efforts only being rewarded by. a few bags of oats and potatoes. Fortunately the wind was blowing from the the south, or there is not the least doubt but that the hotel, would also have been destroyed. Although the buildings and stock in storeroom are insured for £3OO, yet Mr O’Sullivan having a very large stock -will be a heavy loser. Mr McLarin having invested his all in stock will also lose considerably. The other losers are Mr Freeman Jackson, having part of his cattle yards'destroyed ; Mr Cleave, carter, two seis of harness and some goods which he had left in the stable the trip previous, his dray being .too heavily loaded;' Messrs Fetch, Carmody,;and. Ilcedy, a saddle and bridle each, and Mr J. Daley, his swag with clothes and blankets.
