Rangipo’s acceptance for the Cup was a mistake. The letter bore the post date of the 12th, two days after acceptances were due. PARDONING TE KOOTI. (per press association.) GISBORNE, This day. There is groat excitement here and in the country about the pardoning of Te Kooti. Threats are freely made that should he ever appear here he will be shot down like a dog whether pardoned or not. Hopes are expressed that Sir Wm. Jervois will not endorse the action of the Native Minister.
FATAL ACCIDENT. (per press association.) OAMARU, tins day. A young man named William Batley, supposed to be a runaway sailor, was killed ; this morning in Thames street, by failing from his horse. The animal became restive, and the man, in attempting to jump off, fell head foremost, breaking his neck.
