The Waihi was to leave Wellington at three o’clock this afternoon. Mr W. Cowern announces that he will sell by public auction, at his warehouse, at 2 o’clock to-morrow afternoon, without reserve, a large quantity of sugar, flour, empty sacks, grass and clover seeds ; also, on account of gentlemen leaving the district, a large assortment of household furniture and utensils. Mr Dale will hold at noon to-morrow a sale of the furniture and effects of two gentlemen who are leaving • Patea. Luncheon will be provided, and the articles can be seen at Mr Dale’s rooms this evening from 7 to 9 o’clock. The proposed trip of a cricketing team from this Coast to Wellington, Nelson, &c., has fallen through. The same gentle-, men intend trying a trip northward in February or March. Hawera won the first cricket match with the Auckland team by an innings and 33 runs.
