H.A.C.B. SOCIETY.

A branch of the Hibernian Australasian 'Catholic Benefit Society was formally opened' in Patea on Monday evening by Bro. J. J. Lawlor, secretary of the Wanganui Branch. A good number were in attendance, and the following members were elected and duly installed to the various offices of the society:—President, Bro. J. Sheaban, proposed by Bro. J. A. McKenna and seconded by Bro. P. McLoughlin ; Vice-President, Bro. E. Cullinan, proposed by Bro. R. Whelan, seconded by Bro. W. J. Guerin; Secretary, Bro. J. A. McKenna, proposed by Bro. R. Whelan, seconded by Bro. P. McLoughlin ; Treasurer, Bro. W. J. Guerin, proposed by Bro. J. A. McKenna and seconded by Bro. J. Sheahan ; Warden, Bro. T. Moran, proposed by Bro. W. J. Guerin, seconded by Bro. P. McLoughlin ; Guardian, Bro. R. Whelan, proposed by Bro. C. Cullinan, seconded by Bro. P. Gilligan. For the office of Sick Visitors Bros. E. Bartlett and P. McLoughlin wore proposed by Bro. W. J. Guerin and seconded by Bro. J. Moran. Bro. J. A. McKenna proposed Bros. J. Sheahan and P, Gilligan as Auditors. The whole of the officers were elected unanimously. Bro. J. A. McKenna proposed a vole of thanks to Bro. .), ».L Lawlor for the interest and trouble he had taken in opening the Branch, and hoped that the officers and members would work cordially together and try to induce more members to join, and he hail every reason to believe that (die Branch would be a great success.
