The Legislative Assembly last night rejected the proposal made by the Government in favor of the erection of a National Gallery and Public Library on the site of the Garden Palace, which was recently destroyed by fire. In the Legislative Council this evening the Hon John Robertson introduced a Bill to amend the Land Acts, by making better provision for the punishment of abuses in connection with the occupation of land, and for amending the existing land laws. A Bill to amend the Acts relating to mining has also been introduced.
