The curator 'of the Canterbury domain has succeeded in rearing about 200 out of the 300 olive stocks sent down by Government. At the time they were received it was thought they would, be a failure, as they looked like a mere shrivelled up bundle ,of sticks, but the plants are exceedingly healthy, and will be ready for distribution next autumn. The Archbishop of Canterbury commended to- the clergy of his diocese the use of the following prayer for the soldiers and sailors engaged in the war in Egypt : —“O Almighty God, whose power no creature is able to resist, keep, we beseech; Thee, our Soldiers and Sailors, who have, now gone forth to war, that they, being armed with thy Defence, may be preserved from all perils to glorify Thee, Who art the only Giver of all Victory, Through "the merits of Thy Only Son, Jesus Christ Our Lord. Amen.” A telegram from Oamaru informs us that on Wednesday a miner named F. R. Dotting was killed at Livingstone near Oamaru by a fall of earth. He was working in his claim with another man, when a fall of earth partly covered him. His mate had nearly extricated him when another fall completely covered him. When got out life was extinct. Ho was a single man.
