A LOCAL GENIUS.
Our (Otago Daily Times) Wakatipu correspondent status that a young man about 20 years of age, living near Kawarau Bridge, has developed a talent for the construction of steamboats, stationary steam-engines, and working locomotives, that is little short of the marvellous. On a dam of water he works Ins steamboat with precision and efficiency, while in. bis hut engines and locomotives of different constructions perform their work with perfection. The young man, whose name is Kobort Thompson, is now engaged on a circular railway to test the practicability of bis locomotives. Mr Thompson (adds our correspondent) is of a quiet and retiring disposition, but it is possible that if any gentleman of any of your Dunedin firms made an offer of taking Mr Thompson in training, he might be induced to turn bis whole attention and abilities to a subject which has done so much for humanity’s progress. Mr Thompson’s accomplishments unmistakeably indicate genius of a very high order.
