TWO COWS IN ONE SKIN.
Mr Allandcr, the manager of the Alylesbury Dairy Company (whose working plant has been exhibited at all the principal agricultural shows in the three kingdoms), has been delivering a series of lectures on the improvement of dairy cows. According to Mr Allandcr—.and his statement is borne out by many practical men—the improvement has been carried to such an extent as virtually to put two cows into one skin. This is to be accomplished by “selection,” and the principal means to that end is the use of a slate and pencil. On the left margin of the slate the names of every cow is to be written. A spring balance is to be hung in a convenient place to hang the pail on ) and the correct weight of each cow’s milk recorded opposite her name on the right hand side of the slatei The slate is to be posted np into a book kept for the purpose weekly. By this means it is exactly known which are good cows and which are worthless. Breed from the best, and turn the worthless into beef.
