The Canterbury Times says :—Mr Johnston, it is said, is to resign Public Works, and Mr E G. Wright is to assume Public Works in.his place. Mr Wright is dead against the Taranaki Breakwater, the Otago Central Railway, and uniform railway rates. Either he cannot be “ Works ” or he must go through the pro•css of deglutition, somewhat after the Pilliet example. Mr Wright, we think, will never be “ Works.” It is impossible for his faith and “ works ” to agree. A painful accident occurred at Pelorous Sound to a man named Alexander, the other day. He was putting some cattle into a punt, when one of the animals ran its horn up its nostrils, leaving a large wound between his eyes. The whole of the glass in use at Bellamy’s was manufactured at Auckland. Mr J. C. Firth, of Auckland, has just imported six hundred cranberry plants.
