Wellington —Government have decided to appoint a commission to enquire into the management of the .Dunedin Beneyolent Institution. The commission will not consist of more than two members ap6 probably only one. Mr VVhitefoord, R.M. at Kaipoi iaone pflbe commissioners, and it is expected Dr Giles, R.M. at Hokitika will be asked to [act with him.-< The commission will be issued forthwith.;.
S Man Overboard. •New Plymouth,—As the steamer Hauraki, from Kaipara to Waitara, was nearing the latter place, a seaman named Walsh was knockud .qver by a sail at 2 olclock .this morning. A boat,., was lowered, but got swamped.: . Life .buoys were thrown overboard to him, but without avail, and he soon sank.
