INQUEST) THIS: DAY.I {By Telegraph.) The Maori corpse has been dug up, and examined by Dr Smith, who is here to give evidence at the inquest. The objection 1 which the natives had ’ previously shown was overcome through the chief Tauroa (who was interviewed by Sergeant'tDonovan on Sunday at Mokoia pah). Tauroa was made to understand, that the; law coujd not be carried out unless a doctor was allowed to examine; the fcorpsdf jo 'form an opinion whether death,was caused by a blow on the head from a stick. The inquest will be resumed to-day by Dr G.ibbcs, coroner , from New Plymouth. , ,- , A Press Association correspondent telegraphs as follows ;—An inspection of the place whore The body was found shows that no fracture of the skulj could possibly have occurred from a fall on the road, which is soft and free from stories. The deceased was’riding a quiet horse, which was not. likely to have kicked him. Inspector James and- Detective Jeffreys are present, waiting for the inquest.
