Renter's Despatches to Patea Daily Mail This Day. STRONG MEASURES FOR IRELAND. London, 13th.-—Sir Stafford Northcote, leader of the Opposition, has promised to cordially support the Government in acting vigorously and sensibly to put down the present disturbed state of Ireland. Expulsion of Jews. London, 15th.—-Five thousand Jews have been expelled from Moscow.; Colliery Explosion. GREAT LOSS OF LIFE. London, 19th, morning.—A disastrous explosion has occurred in Tndhoe colliery, near Durham. A large number of miners were at- work at the time of the explosion, and so far as'is at present know, . 35 have met with their deaths. False Report about Parnell. London, 18th.—-It is now definitely known that the report that an attempt had been made to shoot Mr Parnell while en route to London is entirely without foundation. Reliable information is to hand to the effect that he is still staying in the neighbourhood of Paris, MORE ARRESTS IN IRELAND. London, 19th. The police have effected a capture at Cork of ten persons, on a charge of treason. The arrests were made on the strength of evidence given to the authorities by an informer who was previously an accomplice of those now in custody. Trial for High Treason. London, 18th.—A Special Commission has been appointed to try the case of Roderick McLean, who attempted to shoot the Queen, and who was committed , for trial on a charge of high treason by the Windsor magistrates on March 10th. The Commission held its first sitting at Reading to-day. Victorian Markets. Melbourne, 19th.—dBarley is active at 4s 6d to 4s Bd. ■ Oats are quiet at 3s lOd to 4s for feeding, and 4s Id to 4s 3d for milling. Doctors Undecided. Melbourne, 19th, There is some doubt as to whether the disease from which Miss Southern is suffering is small-pox. The doctors are unable as yet to decide whether it is really variola.
