EGMONT FROM PARIHAKA.

A Parihaka correspondent, of a Christchurch paper writes Everything is quiet here. The Maoris in the district have all raised their potatoes, and are pitting them. About eight o’clock on the morning of Saturdy, 25th ■ March, Major Goring and party, with ■three days’ rations, left the camp for ! the base of Mount Egmont, which is about ten miles from here. The bush ; through which they had to travel is very , dense. They returned about half-past ten o’clock on the morning of the 28th, | having managed to ascend about half way up the mount. The whole distance travelled by them, is through dense bush. When half the distance to the mountain top was traversed it was found that vegetation ceased, but they saw wild cattle tracks beyond the vegetation.
