FIGHTING ALLIGATORS.

Mackey (says an American paper) has recently placed another alligator—a seven footer—in his tank, at Jacksonville, Fla., in the rear of his store, to be company for the large alligator that has been there so long. But the old one resented the intrusion, and the result was a terrible combat between the hideous monsters. It was a desperate, bloody struggle, and continued for many hours with great vindictiveness. They rushed at each other with wide open mouths and locked their jaws on each other like vices, then would endeavour, at intervals, to twist the other's jaw off by sudden, huge lunges. It was a fine display of alligator pluck and style of fighting, and attracted a large crowd. They can use their tails with terrible force.
