NELSON RIFLE MEETING. Brightwater, afternoon. —lt is expected the Championship matches will finish by five o’clock to-morrow.
Napier Wool Prices. Napier, 27th.—At Messrs Hoadley and Lyon’s fourth wool sale, 87 bales and 211 pockets were submitted, and all sold. Greasy was inferior, and realised 7d to NATIVES AND THE PREMIER. WANTS AND PROMISES. This day.—The Ohinemutu Maoris continued addressing the Premier for over two hours, and thereby delayed his departure. They specially urged the prosecution of a road from Cambridge, and the Premier promised to have the road completed before winter. A question about the Licensing Law was also raised. Against the prohibition to supply Maoris, they urged their understanding that there was but one law for themselves and the Europeans. The natives also wanted a school established to teach boys European trades. The Premier promised consideration. The Premier left for Rotomahana, and is expected to return to-morrow, and proceed to Napier via Taupo. Sir John O’Shannessy is here, and a large number of other visitors.
