CIVIL CASES.
The case of Goodacre v. Johnson came up again. The defendant had served nearly a year as an apprentice, and having become useful had gone to another bootmaker in town for work. Mr Goodacre summoned him for disobedience ; the case was adjourned for a settlement; and in the meantime the youth had left the town. An order was now made for his imprisonment three days, as the statutory penalty for disobedience. If he then refuses to return, his master can apply to have the three days’ imprisonment repeated, and so on till one or other tires of the process. Brown v. Houguez was a claim for £5 4s 6d, drapery supplied. Defendant is in Wellington. Order for payment made in default, with costs. Goodacre v. Levy, a dispute arising out of agency in receiving rents at Wanganui. No jurisdiction.
