LORDS versus COMMONS.
A CONSTITUTIONAL STRUGGLE,
London, 27th.—At a meeting of Liberal members or Parliament to-day, to consider the action of the House of Lords in appointing a committee to enquire into the working of the Irish Land Act, Mr Gladstone declared that he would not allow anything to be done to impair the provisions of that measure. The meeting expressed its unanimous approval of the Premier’s decision.
Insurance Frauds.
Adelaide.—Messrs Hicks and Barber, insurance agents of this city, have been arrested on a charge of attempting to defraud the Australian Mutual Provident Society.
Fighting against Insfria.
REFUGEES HO MEL ES S.
Vienna, 26th. —General fighting is proceeding throughout Herzegovina, between the insurgents and the Austrian troops. Several encounters have taken place, resulting in defeat of the insurgents, large numbers of whom are,now in great distress and homeless. One thousand refugee insurgents have fled from the scene of hostilities, and have forcibly entered Montenegro to obtain food and shelter.
