THE QUEEN’S HEALTH,
London, Bth.—The Queen will proceed to Mentone, in Italy, in March next. Her Majesty’s medical advisers have ordered that she should take a complete rest and change.
Afghan Revolt.
London, Bth.—Telegrams are to hand reporting that a revolt has broken out at Herat against the rule of Abdul Rahman. The intelligence, however, requires confirmation.
Politics and Murder.
London, 7th.—A letter containing explosive material, addressed to Mr Forster, the Chief Secretary for Ireland,
has been discovered. The police obtains! possession and destroyed the package.
England and Russia—Protest.
London, Bth.—lt is currently reported here to-day that an interview took place yesterday between Earl Granville, Foreign Secretary, and Count Lobanoff, Russian Ambassador, when the former took occasion to formally protest against the recent treaty concluded between Persia and Russia in regard to their respective frontiers.

London, Later.—lt is now known that there is no foundation for the report which has been current to the effect that the Earl of Granville has verbally protested to the Russian Ambassador against the recent treaty the settling Russo.
Mr Gladstone and the Jews.
London, Bth.—ln the House of Commons to-day, Mr Gladstone was questioned as to what action, if any, Government proposed to take in regard to persecution of Jews in Russia. In reply, the Premier deplored the outrages which had been committed against Jews, but stated that the question was an internal and not an international one. Government would, however, he added, intercede with Russian authorities when a fitting occasion arose.
Passengers Released.
Sydney, This Day.—The Orient steamship Garonne received pratique last night, and her passengers will be released from quarantine.
Ship Breaking-up.
Sydney, This Day.—The steamship Fiona is now breaking up on Seal Rocks.
Floating a Company.
Melbourne, 9 th.—Shares to the number of 19,000 out of 47,000, in Messrs Keast and McArthur’s Brewery Company, of Dunedin, have been applied for.
