Borneo, after having been partially brought under the dominion of that nineteenth-century hero, Rajah Brooke, is now destined to become a new East Indian kingdom, Mr Dent, the opulent China merchant, has bought all the royal rights of resident rajahs, and having formed a trading company has obtained a special charter of incorporation from Lord Kimberley. The new company has been constituted the reigning power in Borneo, with all rights and privileges, political and trading. It can make war or peace, extend or curtail its territories, raise coal or minerals, encourage immigration, and act in every way as a royal power.
