A LUNATIC PARSON.
St. Peter’s is the fashionable Anglican church in Melbourne, and attached to this church as curate, a short time ago, was the Rev. Frank Harding, a very handsome and clever gentleman, aged only 22. Amongst the congregation was a remarkably beautiful young lady will) whom the clergyman became desperately enamoured. She refused to have anything to do with him, and he became almost frantic. His friends persuaded him to accept a position in a Tasmanian grammar school, in order that absence might teach him to subdue his mad passion. However, his ardour knew no decrease, and during the Christmas holidays he went over to Melbourne and made another fruitless attempt to soften the heart of the obdurate fair one. He then determined to destroy himself, and took a heavy dose of chloral. Prompt medical assistance saved him, but he asserted that he could not live unless the lady would give him some hope. He was willing to wait thtee years. The lady would hold out no hope, and he thereupon swallowed another dose ©f chloral, which killed him.
