Two attempts at suicide by a married woman named Hodges was frustrated at New Plymouth the other evening. Mr E. Tregeari surveyor, was on the cliffs, and seeing the woman go into the water with her clothes on, he- rushed in and dragged her out of the tide. Leaving her to fetch assistance, he returned in a short time and saw her again in the water, with head under. ■ He rushed into deep water and rescued her a second time, she being then .insensible.; She was cared for by the police, And brought dp at the Court next day, when she expressed sorrow for attempting to destroy herself. Her -husband became surety for her. • Meetings of householders to elect Schcool Committees will be held in this district on the Bth February, being the second Wednesday, and not on-the'date previously’ advertised.
