WANGANUI CONTEST. Mr Gilbert Carson, proprietor of the Chronicle, was elected on Wednesday by a majoritj' of 54, the numbers being—Carson 168, Henry Nathan 114. WELLINGTON CONTEST. • Three candidates were nominated, and the election on Wednesday resulted thus : —Fisher 446, Andrew Young 389, Hutchison 382. The result has surprised most people. Mr Hutchison’s return was considered almost certain, the doubt being whether Mr Young would beat him. Yet the citizens have preferred Mr Fisher, who is a reporter in Parliament on the Hansard staff. Christchurch : Mr Euddenklau elected with 594, Mr C. B. Taylor 565. Westport : Mr Haselden elected, majority 24. Sydenham : Mr J. Joyce elected without opposition. Kaiapoi : Mr C. Smith elected, majority 1 21. IvANGiORA : Mr J. Johnston re-elected without opposition.
