The Mail has over 90 subserbers between Whenuahura and Waitotara. BRANCH OFFICE OF THE MAIL , Monday Evening. Mr F. R. I see the County Council have passed a resolution instructing their engineer to prepare an estimate of costs of repairs to the Railway Station road, and it is proposed to declare it a County road altogether. Seeing that it is more used than the main road, this is only fair, I think, and I wonder the Town Board did not communicate with the Council on the subject long ago. WAIROA HIGHWAY BOARD. The monthly meeting of the above Board was held at Mr Fookes’s office, on Saturday, 6th instant. Present : Messrs Johnston, McLean, Aiken, and Fisher (chairman), ■Minutes of previous meetings read and confirmed. Treasurer’s balance : General account, £lßl 16s 4d ; block 8, £BB 9s Id ; block 9, £25 10s Bd. Letters received from Treasury, Commissioner of Crown Lands (2), Wanganui Education Board, Public Works Office (2), Colonial Secretary, P, Wilson, and others. Report received from Foreman of Works. Mr Riddell waited on the Board re fencing road near Taylor’s hill. Tenders for approaches to Kohi bridge : M. Keating, £l3 10s ; J. W. Hughes, £2l ;J. Hughes, £l2 17s 6d. Resolved that Mr James Hughes’s tender be accepted. Tenders for Elnslie’s road : J. Bowie, £5. Resolved that Mr Bowie’s tender be accepted. Tenders for Harris’s road : J. Bowie, £36 5s ; J. W. Hughes, 17s 6d per chain, total £2l 17s 6d, Resolved that Mr J. W. Hughes’s tender be accepted. Accounts passed for payment : P. Kinsella, £1 16s ; E, G. Ross, £8 2s ; J. Brophy, 18s ; Patea Mail, £1 7s ; H. I. Jones, £1 13s 6d. Mr Alex. Dickie waited on the Board re road to block 9, &c. Mr Murray waited on the Board re road to section 21, block 9. Mr Lind made application for compensation for erecting bridge over the Momahaki. Resolved that the Foreman of Works spend £2 10s on road leading to block 9, Momahaki. Resolved that the Foreman of Works get the necessary repairs done to Wairoa Creek culvert. Resolved that the Secretary reply to letter from Commissioner of Crown Lands re Muldrock & Murray’s letter. Resolved that the Foreman of Works prepare specifications, and tenders be called for formation of road to Waitotara school-house ; also for culverts and filling through swamp, on Bradley and Aiken’s road. Resolved that Mr Lind’s application for compensation for building bridge over Momahaki be referred to the Commissioner of Crown Lands. Resolved that notices be posted up stating that all rates unpaid by Sept. 3rd be sued for. -
