HAWERA.
The Mail has over 90 subscribers betioeen Manutahi and Stratford. HAWERA ROAD BOARD. The ordinary monthly meeting was held on Saturday. Proposed by Mr Robson, seconded by Mr Treweek, that Mr Morrison take the chair for the ensuing year. Carried. Minutes of previous meeting read and confirmed. Correspondence from C. H, Beresford and Bank of New Zealand. Proposed by Mr Robson, and seconded by Mr Treweek, that the Chairman write to the Minister of Public Works, pointing' out that the Ketemarae road has been closed, and refering him to sections 133-4 of the Public Works Act of 1876, and ask why this Board has not been consulted in the matter. Carried. Proposed by Mr Treweek, seconded by Mr Wallace, and carried, That the Chairman be instructed to communicate with the Treasury, and also the Commissioners of Crown Lands at Patea and Now Plymouth, asking them what monoy is available for works in the Ngaire district, on account of D.P. An araendmet proposed by Mr Morrison, and seconded by Mr Treweek, That a pro-
posed rate of Gd in the £ be struck, and the same be advertised, was carried. Another amendment, proposed by Mr Wallace, and seconded by Mr Robson, That th e rate for ensuing year be 9d in the £, was lost. Mr Duris stated that Mr Baird was speaking to him about the deviation on his road.
Mr G. W, Gane also wrote about the same matter.
Resolved that the matter bo deferred until next meeting. Resolved, That Mr Quin’s letter and account be held over until next, meeting. Resolved, That Mr Edwards’ contract be extended until the fine weather sets in, .and that £lO be paid as progress payment.
Tenders for works on Boylan road were received as under :
Proposed b\- Mr Robson, and seconded by Mr Morrison, That McKenzie and Co.’s tenders for Nos. 2 and 3 contracts be accepted. Carried. Proposed by Mr Treweek, and seconded by Mr Doris, That a ranger be appointed to impound catfle off public roads, and that application be received for appointment by next meeting.
