Assets and Liabilities.

In tho assigned estate of William Williams, Pntea, the following statement of assets was tiled in Court; Undivided interest in To

A supplementary asset was put in to balance the claim of Kaitangiwhonna natives. They chvmed £5411, the amount of cheque handed to Mr Williams to get cashed. He then put in as a setoff £5411 for moneys advanced and liabilities incurred re Kaitangiwhenua. Liabilities proved are as follow:

The liabilities are an uncertain amount, because the native claims would involve litigation to ascertain points of law as to whether the claims are valid. It would have to be ascertained whether Williams was sufficiently authorised to disburse the native cheque in payment of tradesmen’s claims against natives. The total liabilities, £11,302, should be reduced by striking out a duplicate native claim for £ISOO, making the total about £9,800. The assets filed in Court require analysing. The £SOO advanced on a portion of Tutiareare block would have to be worked by an astute diplomatist to realise anything. The claim of £IBOO for excess payments re Kaitangiwhenua is practically no asset. The £ISOO due from purchaser's of the Toko block may realise more or less. Perhaps the assets surrendered under the deed may be taken at £2,500, and on the claims put in there would not be 4s in the pound. If the large native claims could be extinguished without costly lawsuits, the real creditors might expect 7s or 8s in the pound. The position will be better understood when the three examiners appointed in the interest of the large claimants have reported on the transfers of property and other matters.
