POLITICAL GOSSIP.
(BY TBLEORAFU.) FROM OUR PARLIAMENTARY CORRESPONDENT. Wellington, Friday Night. Major Atkinson has again introduced his bill for taxing Crown and native lands, in aid of local bodies. The Financial Statement is fixed for Friday next. After that, the real fighting of parties will commence. Major Atkinson also promises, as the next important matter, to explain the intention of Ministers on the question of Local Government, Mr Murray’s motion on the necessity of reform in Local Government was seconded by Mr Ormond, who suggested that the question should be relegated to the people at the coming elections, and that Ministers should be content with passing a Redistribution of Scats Bill. The fee of £2O for club licenses in the Licensing Bill has been agreed to after discussion. Accommodation house license fee is fixed at £2O. Barmaids are to work only eight hours a day, and not after 10 p.m. The bill is expected to go through committee to-night. The House is expected to adjourn about middle of next week, to enable members to visit Dunedin Exhibition. The Postmaster-General acknowledged to-day that he sent to Australian Governments the names of all telegraph servants who struck last year.
