A marked change has recently occurred in the condition of Mount Etna. The ravine which rendered the central crater accessible has disappeared, owing to the crumbling away of the side of the crater itself, a process which has diminished the height of the volcano by about forty feet. Another prospecting party from Manawatu is about to start for the Fitzherbert reefs with provisions for a month.
