The Mail has over 80 subscribers between Whenuulcura and Waitotara. BRANCH OFFICE OF THE MAIL, Wednesday Evening, The Petition for the re-establishment of the sittings of the It, M. Court bore is being extensively signed, and no doubt the Government will sec their way to comply with the views ot the community in this matter. The Railway is fast approaching completion, the rails being hud to within a few yards of tiic station, and the familiar whistle of the “ iron horse ” reminds one that om locality is fast approaching towards a better state of things. The convenience of railway communication is too well known to need any connnenc, and apart from the increased value in town properties, the facilities afforded to the residents for easy communication with neighbouring places are considerably increased. School Examination. —The public examination of the school here takes place to-morrow, beginning at 11 a.in. There will also be the distribution of prizes, and the proceedings will be varied by some recitations given by the pupils. The parents and friends of the young hopefuls arc all invited to attend. HIGHWAY BOARD ELECTION. Two candidates were proposed yesterday for the representation of No, 5 Ward, viz. Mr A. Aiken, representing Waverley interests, and Mr T. Fisher, of Waitotara, The contest will be keen, as the question at issue is the road to theMornahaki Block. Two lines are laid off, one through the Williamson property, the other along the river bank to Waitotara. The trade of the district is of importance to Waitotara, and the voters there are likely to vote for the man who will look after their interest. The other road brings the district in near communication with the railway, and is in every way more advantageous to the settlers on the Block ; but the voters in this end of the district arc almost sure to let the matter slip in the same manner as those wiio undertook the arrangement of the nomination of Mr Aiken, almost failing to be in time. The virtue of seeing and telling how a thing ought to have been managed is very prevalent, but only shows the class of sagacious knowledge that comes too late to be of value. For the interests of Waverley and the peace of the Board, let the voters for once come up to time and support their man. [From another Correspondent .] The nomination for a Warden for No. 5 ward, Wairoa Highway District, was held in the Town Hall here on Tuesday, 14th instant. Messrs A. Howie, junr., and Thomas Fisher, of Waitotara, were nominated. The votes beiug equal, the presiding officer (Mr Fookes) gave bis casting vote in favour of Mr Howie. Mr Fisher demanded a poll, which will take place next Tuesday. It is to be hoped the ratepayers will roll up at the election better than at the nomination, the attendance at the latter being exceedingly small. The late chairman and representative of No. 5 Ward deserves the thanks of the community for the able and efficient manner in which for the last five or six years he has conducted the business of the Board, sparing neither time nor trouble in the execution of the duties of chairman.
