BRANCH OFFICE OF THE MAIL , Monday Evening.
Cuicket. —Tbe match Waihi v. Hawcra G.C. came off on the former’s ground on Saturda}’, and resulted in somewhat of a sell. The Hawcra captain having won the toss put-in his opponents, who succeeded in putting together 82 before the last wicket fell. The fielding of Hawcra men was very bad, and consequently extras scored 24. The Hawcra men then took the willow, but were all disposed of for 51, the bowling and fielding of the Waihi’s being too good. Again the Hawcra men took the fielding, determined to make a better show, and succeeded in disposing of their opponents for 37 runs, tints making a total of 68 for them to win. Lysnght and Lines went to the wickets, but the latter soon lost his place by a yorker. Goodson took the vacancy, and the two managed to rim up the required number ore another wicket fell, both scoring 29. The fielding of the Waihi’s in this innings was a marked contrast to the former.
HAWERA ROAD BOARD. A meeting of the above Board took place last Saturday. Present: Messrs Hunter (chairman), Gano, Allan, Robson, Morrison and Williams. Resolved “That Mr Riston’s letter be held over for one month.” Rosohed that the Engineer inspect the work Mr Sweeney requires, and do it to the amount of £4. The Chairman stated that Ackman’s tender had been accepted tor the road between Boylan and Austin-roads for 17s 6d per chain in place of McKenzie’s. Proposed by Mr Gain, seconded by Mr Hunter, “That McKenzie’s deposit be refunded.” Carried. Resolved “That the secretary write to Mr Quinlivau and request him to put up a gate on Manawapou-road. Messrs Buchanan and Hobbs waited on the Board re bridge over Tongahoe stream. It was proposed by Mr Gane, seconded by Mr Robson, “ That tenders ho called for erection of bridge over Tangahoe. The
approaches and earthwork to be done at Messrs Buchanan and Hobbs’ expense ; tenders to be received next meeting,” Carried.
Proposed by Mr Gano, seconded by Mr Allen, “ That the Chairman inform Messrs Buchanan and Hobbs that the Board have voted £l2O for the bridge, and that they must make up the amount to the lowest tenderer, should ho be above the amount.” Proposed by Mr Ganc, “That the Hoad Board members value the district.” It found no seconder.
Proposed by Mr Huntci, seconded by Mr Morrison, “ That tenders be called for compiling rate roll for 1881-2, particulars to be obtained from the Chairman ; tenders to close on the 18th instant.” Carried.
Resolved that next ordinary meeting be held on the 18th instant, instead of Ist January. Resolved that the Engineer prepare plans and specifications for the works on Ngairc block, as noted by Chairman.
Mr Morrison said ho should object to the Board opening the boundary fences through his property, and being a continuation of the Boylan-road towards Austin-road. Resolved that Mr Allen communicate with the owners of the land adjoining the Molls-road, and ask them if they would be agreeable to having a rate imposed for the improvement of Molls-road. The following tenders wore received for work on Boylan-road ;—John West, £ll2, accepted ; P. O’Connor, £147 ; W. Comnc, £125 7s Gd ; Castle & Vissieks, £IBB 15s; Cleaver & McDonald, £221 8s 9d.
Mr Hunter proposed, and Mr Allen seconded, “ That any' further work with reference to the Ingahapc-road bo stopped until the Board is in funds, and that the deposits of tenderers bo returned.” Carried.
