KAKARAMEA.
(I'UOM OUU C 0 R U lisro NDIC N T.) Frida}'' Evening. Simoon Committick. —On Friday a meeting was hold in the School. Present Messrs Clover (chairman) Payne, Paterson ; and Salmon. It was resolved that prizes and a tea-party be given to the children on the 17th of this month, that being the day when the Christmas vacation commenccs. It is to be hoped that patents will subscribe liberally on this occasion and so give the little ones a chance of enjoyment after their year’s work. Recitations &c will be given in the evening at the Town Hall. It must be gratifying to the teacher, Mr Brown, to find that two of his former pupils, Miss Ada Hawkcn and Miss Marjorie Williamson, have passed the highest standard (VI) at the High School, Wanganui, The former! who stands first in order of merit, gained 478 marks out of a possible 600, and the latter, who is very young, passed with 438. Three or four new cottages arc being erected in the township, and I hear that orders have been given for several more. This shows that people are beginning to have a little faith in the future prosperity of our settlement.
