PATEA SHOW.
The annual show of the Patea District Agricultural and Pastoral Association, to be held next Thursday, promises to be successful in a moderate degree. The entries from all parts of the County are fairly numerous, except from Hawera and Normanby. The entries closed on Thursday evening, except that produce and implements may be entered up to date of show. A comparison ot entries for last year and the present is appended :
The entries at present are 4 more than last year, and are likely to be increased in the two classes still open. Only four entries of stock arc from the Hawera district. The prizes offered by the Association amounted to about LIOO, but some of the classes have no entries, and those prizes go back to the fund. Special prizes in money and goods are offered to the value of about L3O ; donations are also received, to bo applied to the general fund. The public dinner in the evening may involve some outlay, as the contractor’s price is understood to be rather over the half-guinea asked for tickets. The cattle-yards and produce shed arc erected; the yards comprising 40 pens, 8 by 0 feet, with an alley 9 feet wide between each row of pens. The yards for stock cover an area of 320 by 27 feet. There will be a tent for (he judges, lent by Major Noake ; and one or two refreshment booths at a convenient distance. Entrance will be 2s Gd up to noon, and Is after. A water jump of 12 feet, for horses, and a leaping match will afford some amusement after three o’clock.
