The Coach Collision.

Our Xormanby correspondent wrote yesterday: —Your readers may be glad to know that Mr F. H Brett, who was injured at the coach accident on the Manawapou bridge, bad a rather better time of it last night, and although very severely shaken and bruised, it is hoped that there is no worse damage done. Unless inflammation should ensue, he may be about again shortly. A PAINFUL INCIDENT. One of the passengers now at Wanganui writes : —“ When the coach struck the bridge, two men were thrown into

the river, and one of them was under for a short time. His partner jumped off the coach, and looked around for him, but could not see him. He then went to the bank of the river—some twenty feet high, and almost perpendicular —and rolled down into the stream, and before long got hold of his partner, but only just in time to save his life, ns he was senselesss, and the current was carrying him away. He got him out of the river, and then jumped in again to try and get hold of their goods. He got a few things, and then went in again, but without success. The men are pedlars, and have lost all their stock-in-trade, ami are loft penniless. They are both married, and have families residing in Auckland who arc dependent on them for support. The one who was pulled out of the river is now lying dangerously ill at Mr Cooper’s boardinghouse, under the care of Dr Warren.”
