KAKABAMEA.
(FROM our correspondent.) Friday Evening, The meeting called for electing a new commit tec for the Library came off on Wednesday evening. The secretary’s report showed that since the opening on the first Saturday in January last, the committee had done all that could be done with the slender resources under their control, A commodious cupboard had been erected, and well stocked with many ot the host works, ancient and modern. Foreign and colonial newspapers, too, had been procured for the perusal of members. The report also stated that the number of subscribers at the present day was about the same as at the opening. Application for a grant of land had been made, and it was understood that a section had been recommended to the Governor by the Taranaki Waste Lands Board. The report and balance-sheet were adopted. The new members elected were : —Messrs Baggett, Ginger, and Mcßae ; Messrs Brown, Salmon, Clover, and Willis being re-elected. Mr W. Ginger was elected chairman and treasurer, and Mr Clover has temporarily accepted the post of librarian, Mr Brown having resigned. Considering the importance of this institution to the town people, and io the more immediate settlcis, it is to be regretted that so many of those who really should have been present at this meeting rendered themselves conspicuous by their absence. The Maoris, whom wc have not seen for a long time, have again made their appearance, and judging from the amount of “ heavy wot” they conceal, they must be “ in funds.” I am sorry to record an accident to the Mcdorafoal, wiiose birth I reported lately. It has received a kick from another horse of so serious a nature that it cannot put its injured limb to the ground. The owner, Sir Mcßae, seems to bo singularly unfortunate with his best horses.
