LAND SALE.

WAIM ATE PLAINS SECTIONS [From our Correspondent Hawera, Friday. The sale of the deferred payment sections that had more than one applicant took place at the Town Hall yesterday. Ths room was crowded, about 300 persons being present. The bidding was spirited, but the prices were generally less than was expected. The bidders “ did not lose their heads.” Mr C. A. Wray, Land Commissioner, before commencing the sale, gave out that the Okoiawa sections would be open for selection next Tuesday. He also read a list of the sections for which only one application had been received, as follows: Block 7, section 51, Thomas Wells; section 126, Magnus Forbes Block 8, section 37, A. Strachan ; section 39, D. McLean ; section 48, J. Crowley; section 50, B. O. Hardy; section 52, Kenry Tyler ; section 74, A. C. Milne ; section 70, G. J. Mackie. Applied for on 20th October —Block 8, section 43, G. V. Bate ; block 7, section 52, J. H. Siggs Applied for on 27th October —Block 8, section 72, Thomas Scott DEFERRED PAYMENT AUCTION. The following are the prices given for the contested sections at yesterday’s sale :

SALE OF CASH SECTIONS. {By Telegraph.) Hawera, Friday Evening. The sale of cash sections by auction commenced at 11 this forenoon, and closed at nearly 5 o’clock. The Town Hall was crowded. The S8 sections varied in size from 50 to about 80 acres each ; and ninny Southern men here refrained from bidding for sections which seemed to them too small to bo of any practical use. Every section was sold, the prices ranging from £5 (the reserve being £4) to £8 ss. as the highest figure. The biddings were not spirited, and the average prices were not so high as had been expected. A good many local men bought one or more sections. The general impression among Hawera residents is that the land went cheap. The principal buyers to-day were Messrs Muir, McLean, H. F. Christie (276 acres), Malcolm (from London, a group of sections about 600 acres), W. Reid, Caverhill (about 300 acres), Isaac Bayly (300 acres), Humphrey Bayly, Honeywell, and Box. The schedule of cash sections and prices is as follows: rlock. in.
